Air-Tan > Versa Spa

If you’ve heard of us, chances are, you have heard of the Mystic Tan or the Versa Spa. I first tried the Mystic Tan a few years ago when I received one free session as a birthday gift. I was so excited to step in the booth and try this new, innovative, UV-Free option since tanning beds usually resulted in a burn for me...Despite my excitement, I was really disappointed with my results. It was my birthday and I was an orange mess. It was streaky, smelly, and the color was just not natural. It was back to tanning beds for me where I would endure more burns and uneven color (white lines under the butt cheeks, anyone?) until I was blessed with the discovery of Air-Tan. I was not so familiar with the Versa Spa before today, so I made a few phone calls to learn a little more.

Here’s a little chart I made comparing the two; it explains why Air-Tan is the better and more efficient choice:

Air-Tan

Versa Spa

What is the cost?

$30 per session

$34 per session

Is it customizable?

5 color levels

3 color levels

How long before I can bathe?

8 hours

4-6 hours

How long will it last?

5-10 days

up to a week

Will it be even?

With over 20 body positions, we can assure your tan will be even

4 body positions

Will it look natural?

We spray some areas lighter/darker than others, to mimic what the sun naturally does when exposed to our skin

Every area is sprayed the same

What if I want more color?

We’ll have you check your tan in the mirror. Then, you can decide if you want more color in any certain area.

To add more color, you would need to tan in a bed or purchase another session

Should I tan in a bed before I get my spray tan (aka: double dip, cocktail)

Totally not necessary! Air-Tan exists as a HEALTHY alternative to UV rays and ONE session is all you need!

It is highly suggested to double-dip. They suggested double-dipping with their best bed, bringing the total to $59 per session.

What do I do when my tan fades?

If you are an unlimited member, you can stop in anytime without an appointment for a touch up on your hands, feet, and/or face

Tan in a bed or purchase another session

Air-Tan YouTube Tuesday: ShowerTan…a Spray Tan Nightmare!

The 7 huge NO NO's of Spray Tanning!

During our lunch break, Katelyn and I decided to search for spray tan videos on YouTube, and we came across this little gem. We were shocked, appalled, and amused at how terrible the process looked. Being the spray tan experts that we are, we know that there is NO way that doing this in-home spray tan could ever look even or natural!!

  1. The very first part is both Katelyn’s and my fave. The girl (who is named Samantha) hits the on button with her toe and immediately BLASTED in the face with the tanning solution. It is truly comical.
  2. After the initial blast, the flow keeps decreasing, so there is no way that the other sides of her body are going to have the same coverage as the front of her. The instructional video doesn’t tell you how to stand or how long to stand in each position, either. At Air-Tan, we tell you all the correct positions to make sure that every part of you is covered completely and evenly, and a technician is doing the spraying, which takes out all of the guesswork of wondering if an area is completely covered or not.
  3. Once the spray is done, Samantha comes out and rubs the tan solution in on her skin with her bare hands. What?!?! Touching the solution is going to also tan the palms of your hands. Who has tan palms? Nobody! Not a natural look at all. Once an Air-Tan is applied, there is no need to touch your skin at all, and you can get dressed immediately!
  4. The girl is wearing booties on her feet. These booties COVER her whole foot. How are you supposed to get a natural-looking tan with white feet? The video also doesn’t show how the tops of your hands get sprayed, so chances are that it’s not very even. The hands and feet are the two toughest areas to get right with a spray tan. Luckily, Air-Tan specializes in air brush tanning ONLY, so we have perfected the art of getting the hands and feet just right.
  5. Another thing I noticed is that there are no color levels to choose from. Just one shade. No customizability. Air-Tan has five color levels to choose from, and you aren’t limited to choosing only one level either. If you want a 4 on your legs, a 3 on your body, and a 2 on the face, it’s no problem at all for any of our technicians to customize the tan to your specifications.
  6. Also Samantha looks suspiciously the same exact color before and after her tan, so did this shower tan really make her tan?!?
  7. Finally, the cost of the whole setup is pretty pricey. The pricing is not available on the video, but I checked out their website and found that the ShowerTan machine is $345 (without shipping and handling)! That’s over four months worth of Unlimited tans at Air-Tan. It only comes with one bottle of tanning solution. This contraption may give you the ease of tanning at home, but Air-Tan provides the peace of mind of that your tan will be even, natural, and affordable.

Spray Tan News: Vitamin D Deficiency

Ever feel a little down in the dumps when winter arrives? It could have something to do with Vitamin D deficiency. What are symptoms of Vitamin D deficiency? Depression, chronic fatique, weight loss, diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, and even stroke.

So how much sunlight is needed for your daily dose of Vitamin D? Just 5-30 minutes on your face, arms, back or legs a few days a week without sun screen is needed. This means you can get all you need by just walking outside to and from your car. The problem with this is the exposure to UVB rays. Ultra Violet B rays are the rays that cause skin reddening and sunburns. They also are the key developers of skin cancer. How can we protect ourselves from UVB rays? Use SPF every single day before you go outside. SPF can be found in sunblocks, moisturizers, foundations, and chapsticks. UVB is most significant in the United States between 10AM-4PM April-October, but is damaging year round especially with the presence of snow and ice which reflect 80% of rays back up, causing the harmful rays to hit your skin twice.

What now? We know we need Vitamin D, but we don’t need the UVB rays in which the vitamin comes from. You can get your daily dose of the vitamin in these foods: catfish, fish oil, cod liver oil, mollusks, salmon, sardines in oil, mackerel, soy milk, margarine, butter, and eggs.

Stay happy and healthy and get your daily dose of Vitamin D by incorporating a few of the aforementioned foods...Skip the UVB rays and steer clear of premature aging, age spots, liver spots, moles, and cancer!
