Cyber Monday - A Tradition for the Next Generation

Don’t have the patience to fight the crowd on Black Friday? Do you have to work on Black Friday? Unfortunately, I could not participat in Black Friday this year for both of these reasons....but this is why I LOVE Cyber Monday! This is actually the first year I have heard about Cyber Monday, although it made its debut back in 2005. It is quickly becoming one of the biggest shipping days of the year and grossed $887 million last year alone. Cyber Monday is also big in the U.K., France, Portugal and Germany - but in these countries it lasts for a full 8 days! If you haven’t guessed already, Cyber Monday is basically the Internet’s version of Black Friday. Most online retailers offer huge discounts (like their Black Friday counterpart) plus free shipping.

Major retailers participate in Cyber Monday like Toys R Us, Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Overstock.com, Kohls, and Macy’s....Target is making Cyber Monday even easier this year by offering alerts delivered to you via email or text message. Be the first to see the 2-day deals by signing up at Target.com, indicate your preference of email or text message, and specify what time you would like your alert. Walmart is also making Cyber Monday a big deal and offering Cyber WEEK through December 3. So do yourself a favor, save yourself from stress, and shop from the comfort of your own home on Cyber Monday!

Black Friday or Before ... do you SHOP?

Do any of you have after-Thanksgiving shopping traditions? Every year, my family and I go to the Edinburgh Premium Outlets either on Black Friday or on Saturday. I remember the first time that we ever went, which was on Black Friday. It was the first time we had ever done any hard core post-Turkey Day shopping…and it was like a zoo! I distinctly remember seeing security guards armed with guns (!!!) standing at the front of several stores. Once I looked past the security guards, all I saw was a shelving unit that had a mountain of t-shirts, none of which were even halfway folded neatly. Despite all the pandemonium, we still keep going back year after year because the deals are so great! Who can say “no” to a $5 Gap shirt? Or a pair of Pumas that have been so deeply discounted you’d be a fool to pass up?!

For die-hard bargain hunters, there is even a website dedicated to posting all the Black Friday deals! Black-Friday.net posts all the major store circulars as soon as they come out. You can even get email alerts when new deals are posted and create a shopping list of all the things you want to buy.
